Eulogy read at the funeral service

Stuart was born on 23rd September 1947, in the St Pauls area of Bristol, to Edna May and Walter Charles William Allison. He was the much loved brother of younger sister Jane [known as “Titch”]. Stuart did not really have a nickname himself, but was known to all his friends and family as Stu As a school boy, Stuart twice escaped from lessons without permission. Firstly, when he was just six years of age and attending infant school, he was found wandering along the Wells road, a long way from where he should have been. To beat that, while attending Hengrove Comprehensive School, Stuart was on a cross-country run…. well, he didn’t stop running and at the end of the run carried on out of the school gates… all the way home. Stuart played rugby while at school and was a member of the school rugby team. At the age of fifteen Stuart joined the Air Training Corps and after leaving full time education, served an apprenticeship with Rumsey’s of Bristol, in mechanical engineering. It was the start of a lifetime working with motor vehicles, ranging from standard road cars, to racing karts and rally cars. Stuart’s skills included, panel beating, paint spraying and sun-roofs as well as general mechanical work and he went on to run his own garage too. Stuart’s Mum used to say that the reason Stuart was so mad keen on cars was his Father’s fault, because he would let him sit behind the steering wheel as a youngster! Anyway, at a young age, Stuart got involved in karting. It was the early day’s of the sport and he soon started working his way through the ranks, ending up racing to international standards at circuits on Gurnsey and in the U.K.; his trophies speak of how well he did in the sport. In Stuart’s very early days of karting, his kart travelled to the meetings on top of the roof of the Hillman Minx; that is, until the back axle of the Hillman broke! Stuart also went on to run his own kart racing team from Torquay, called the Torbay Kart Centre. Being so involved with the sport gave Stuart opportunity to meet up with some famous names in their formative years of motor racing, including 2008 and 2009 Formula 1 World Champions, Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button; to name drop just a couple! At the end of his kart racing career, Stuart went on to rallying; although I am told that this was more of a hobby for him. Stuart also had a love for the snow covered slopes and enjoyed skiing very much; he also had a great love for animals of all types. His love for music covered a very wide range of styles and types. From Jim Reeves to Pavarotti and from the Bay City Rollers to Catherine Jenkins, Stuart enjoyed them all; in fact, he still has his Bay City Rollers scarf. San met Stuart in 1998 and they were married the following year, in Paignton, Devon. Unfortunately Stuart also had to undergo heart by-pass surgery in 1999, but he recovered well and still wanted to carry on racing. It had been San’s dream of retiring to Spain for a number of years and so they booked a holiday to Benidorm in order that Stuart could get a feel for the place. He had never been to Spain before, and in initially did not like what he saw; however, after seeing Benidorm Old Town he fell in love with Spain too. They moved out here in March 2004, but three months later, Stuart suffered a stroke which unsettled him very much. Amazingly, once again, Stuart made a brilliant recovery from his illness and soon settled down to life here on the Costa Calida, turning from his mechanical skills to that of wall building and cladding, and doing a brilliant job at that! Stuart, you will be sadly missed by everyone whose life you touched.
